Every year in May, the Centifolia rose blooms in Grasse, France. It is the rarest, most fragrant rose in the world and can only be harvested by hand, at dawn, within a four-hour window. Rose pickers from neighboring towns arrive every May at rose fields which have been cultivated by the family for six generations. In this short doc, the harvesters reflect on their relationship to the rose and the personal meaning of this fleeting bloom.
The woman and the man are in a room, a gecko sits in a terrarium, several flies are circling a lamp. Gradually we find more and more dependencies and analogies between their activities and observed elements as the rhythm of their universes accelerates. The microcosms shown seem to interact rhythmically and belong to some cosmic order.
A grandmother reads her grandchild a story called ‘The Gigantic Change’. The story of how, back in 2020, when the world was on the brink of collapse, humanity came together and worked harder than ever to save the environment.

Statistical correction:
It has come to light that the statistic referenced at 02:33 in the film is from a scientific paper which is now outdated. Instead of 'almost half of all species on Earth will be extinct’, a more accurate current estimate is 'up to 1 million more species could be extinct, due to human activity’.
“FATHERS” is a powerful film that interrogates and challenges stereotypes surrounding the role of the black father in modern society.

“FATHERS” gives us an insight into the emotional and spiritual lives of a group of young black men, whose mental health is all too often disregarded.

It charts their experiences navigating the persistent tug of war between providing for their families, fulfilling their creative and artistic ambitions and raising a young family.

The film is underscored by a beautiful sound-bed, with music from the album "Our Father" by Azekel, and accompanied by the rich tones of artist and poet Sophia Thakur. Thakur’s voice is heard on the film itself – highlighting a mother’s perspective of the battle that she sees these "superheroes" going through.

Created by BYUS Group, consisting of Azekel, Ade Adesina, Olan Collardy & Dumas Haddad, who are all young fathers in the creative industry themselves. They have endeavoured to provide a truly artistic, innovative unique and artistic approach to documentary storytelling.
